Most mid-Missouri roof systems last about 20-25 years. Things that might effect that lifespan include materials used and weather. For more information about roofing material options, please visit our roofing materials page.

Does a leak or two in my roof mean I need a full roof replacement?

Not all leaks will require a full roof replacement. But, it’s best to have a professional take a look and help you make an informed decision. As part of our customer commitment the team at Expert Roofing & Exteriors will always be honest with you. If you don’t need an expensive roof replacement, we won’t tell you that you do. And,  if we truly believe that a roof replacement will keep you, your family, and your home safe - we will tell you. What is roof flashing and why should I check it?

Roof flashing prevents leaks in your roof. The flashing acts as a seal between roof joints to keep water out. If you notice flashing that is warped or curling, give us a call. Warped or curling roof flashing is something you’ll want to get checked out to prevent leaks and water damage.

How long does it take to install a new roof?

Generally, asphalt roof replacements take 1-2 days, depending on steepness, from start to finish. This includes removing the existing roof and laying the new one. We understand the roofing process is loud and inconvenient, and we strive to be as efficient as possible. Our crews are polite and communicative, and we do our best to minimize our impact on your daily life during construction.

My roof has strange black and green stains, is it harmful?

Nope! In more humid climates, like the summers here in mid-Missouri, these spots tend to appear. They aren’t harmful, but they can be unsightly. The spots are actually a kind of algae that is spread by airborne spores. As part of our commitment to our customers, we use CertainTeed asphalt shingles that offer a 10-year non-prorated warranty against this type of algae.

Kepping your roof well maintained can help increase the lifespan of the roof. Plus, it can add additional curb appeal to your home. For more roofing maintenance tips, head on over to our Roofing Maintenance: How To resource page.

Can I install a new shingle roof over my existing roof?

We don’t advise it. If repairs aren’t going to cut it, your best option to replace your roof completely. That includes remove the old shingles. This tends to be slightly more expensive than putting new materials over the old. However, it is worth it from a safety and resale value standpoint. In fact, in most cities, it is against the building codes to install a new roof over an existing one.

What type of shingle should I use on my roof?

We recommend metal shingles, like the Matterhorn Metal Shingles from CertainTeed or asphalt shingles. This shingles will last the longest in the mid-Missouri climate.
