Can I install a new shingle roof over my existing roof?
While it may sometimes be possible to install new shingles over an existing roof, Expert Roofing & Exteriors generally does not recommend it. Removing the existing shingles allows us to properly inspect the roof decking and identify damaged, deteriorated, or other problem areas that might otherwise remain hidden.
A complete tear-off also allows the new roofing system to be installed on a properly prepared surface and according to applicable manufacturer requirements and local building codes.
Although installing over existing shingles may appear to save money initially, we believe removing the old roofing system and properly preparing the roof provides homeowners with a better long-term solution.
