We’ve mentioned it before, because it is something we truly believe in. Your roof is an important part of your home security and one of the biggest investments many people will make in their home. Mid-Missouri is a beautiful part of the country and we love our home. But, mother nature here can be vicious and one good hail storm can wreak havoc on a roof. That’s where roofing insurance can come in.
If you think it might be time to have your roof replaced you’ve got options. The best option is to see if your homeowners insurance policy will cover the cost of the replacement. Insurance companies aren’t always known for making things easy. But, with over 12 years of experience as a roofing contractor in mid-Missouri we’ve learned the process pretty well and are here to help.
There are three main people involved in a roof replacement insurance claim. Those people are you, a roofing contractor, and an insurance adjuster. Once you have selected a roofing contractor, it’s time to start the process.
Step 1: See if you need a replacement and get an estimate
The first step is to contact a local roofing contractor. Expert Roofing & Exteriors proudly serves mid-Missouri and we offer risk-free quotes. Click here to contact us to schedule a time to come look at your roof. Once the roofing contractor has assessed the damage it’s time to talk about the roofing materials you want to use for the replacement.
Step 2: File a claim
If the roofing contractor recommends repairs or a complete replacement and the estimate is more than your insurance deductible, it’s time to file a claim. Different insurance companies may handle the insurance claim process differently. However, if you call your insurance company, they will be able to walk you through the process.
Step 3: Meet with the insurance adjuster and get the check from your insurance (if it will cover the replacement)
An insurance adjuster is a person that helps you navigate the insurance claim process and ensure that you are able to claim the full amount that you are legally entitled to. They will meet with you and most likely the roofing contractor as well. Once the insurance adjuster has completed the investigation (and everything goes well) you should receive a check from the insurance company.
Step 4: Roof replacement
Once you have gotten your check, it’s time to start the roof replacement. If you’d like to read more about the roofing replacement process, click here to check out our detailed guide to roof replacement.
Step 5: Pay the roofer and get another check from your insurance (if applicable)
Once the roofing replacement has been completed, it’s time to pay the roofing contractor for their work. If you have specific types of roof insurance coverage (like replacement cost coverage) you may receive an additional check from your insurance company once the total replacement cost has been calculated by the contractor.

In a perfect world, every insurance policy would cover all roofing damage. Unfortunately, though, we don’t live in a perfect world. Sometimes insurance companies will only cover a part of the replacement cost. Or, in some instances they won’t cover anything. If your roof needs to be replaced and you put it off it can cause a lot more damage to your home. Plus, it can endanger you and your family and increase the cost of your utility bills.
